What document to required to apply new OCI card after 20 year of age?

If you have recently celebrated your 20th birthday and are preparing for international travel, you might be wondering what paperwork is necessary to obtain your updated Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card. Navigating the requirements can be complicated, and missing even one document could lead to travel disruptions. Read on to learn exactly what you need.

Why Is OCI Renewal Required After Age 20?

The OCI card is a lifelong visa, but it must be reissued at certain life stages. This policy is enforced by the Government of India because a person's facial features change significantly during childhood and adolescence. By renewing your OCI card after turning 20, your adult facial features will be officially captured and updated in the system, ensuring smooth travel and preventing any boarding issues at the airport.

Who Needs to Apply for OCI Re-Issuance?

According to the latest regulations from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), reissuance rules are strictly based on your age group. You must submit a physical application for OCI reissuance in the following scenarios:

Upon receiving a new passport after turning 20: You are required to apply for a complete reissue.
Upon receiving a new passport after turning 50: You need to get the card reissued only once at this milestone.

Note: For OCI holders aged 21 to 49, reissuance is not mandatory. You only need to update your new passport details on the official online portal.

Getting your paperwork ready in advance is the best way to expedite the process. Since you are applying as an adult after age 20, your checklist will differ slightly from that of a minor.
