e-Gates Facility Under FTI-TTP Now Available at 13 Major Airports in India

India has enhanced its fast-track immigration services with the launch of the e-Gates facility under the Fast Track Immigration–Trusted Traveler Programme (FTI-TTP), now operational at 13 major airports across the country. This initiative aims to reduce immigration wait times and improve the international travel experience for Indian citizens and eligible foreign travelers.

The e-Gates facility under FTI-TTP is currently available at the following airports: Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Cochin, Lucknow, Amritsar, Calicut, Trivandrum, and Trichy. This rollout is part of the government’s broader effort to create a digital and seamless airport immigration system.

The Ministry of Home Affairs launched the FTI-TTP initiative to simplify international arrivals and departures through automated immigration clearance. Registered travelers can use the biometric-enabled e-Gates for quicker entry and exit, eliminating lengthy manual verification processes.

Officials believe that expanding the e-Gates facility will significantly enhance passenger movement at some of India’s busiest airports, especially during peak travel seasons. Additionally, the initiative is expected to strengthen India’s airport modernization efforts while aligning with global smart immigration standards observed in countries like Singapore, the UAE, and the United States.

To use this system, eligible travelers must first register for the FTI-TTP programme and complete biometric verification. Once approved, passengers can access dedicated e-Gates during immigration checks, which reduces physical paperwork and minimizes waiting times at airport counters.

Travel and immigration experts suggest that the new system will particularly benefit NRIs, business travelers, students, and frequent international flyers who often encounter long immigration queues. With air traffic in India on the rise, automated clearance systems are increasingly regarded as essential infrastructure upgrades.

The government plans to expand the e-Gates facility under FTI-TTP to more airports in future phases. Authorities have indicated that additional international airports may soon be integrated into the programme as part of India’s digital aviation transformation strategy.

Industry observers believe this initiative could enhance India’s global travel image by offering faster and more efficient airport processing for passengers. The growing adoption of contactless travel technologies following the pandemic has only heightened demand for automated systems.

Travelers planning international trips are encouraged to enroll in the FTI-TTP programme in advance to take advantage of quicker immigration clearance at participating airports. As India continues to modernize its aviation infrastructure, the expansion of e-Gates is expected to play a key role in creating a smoother and smarter travel experience.
